I’ve been using Pixieditor as my main image editor for a while now, ever since version 2.0 came out, and I can’t help but notice that there are still some things missing that I feel should be there, so I decided to make a list of features that would make the user’s life better.
- Pixelart Pixel Counter. {My idea is that when you make a line, an square or any shape other than the pencil when on the pixelart mode, it should show the width and height of the shape in within its bounding box, similar to what PixelStudio does on it’s editor}
- select/bucket by color {don’t you ever had to manually replace a color for all of the sprites in a Sprite sheet or separate the colors from a image, like removing green screens, the idea is that you have a toggle on the bucket and the magic wand with the name “by color”, it should replace the touching requirement to replace or select pixels with the same color in the whole image}
- Easier pallete system {the pallete interface is way too complicated, clickable and not clickable buttons having the same appearance (yeah I’m talking about the color swap on the pallete), times where you are prohibited to add more colors, and all that stuff, please make it simple and user intuitive, and instead of it replacing the color picker, make it be aside the color picker plese}
- Creating a layers inside of folders {it was a surprise to me that if you’re working inside a folder, beeing it selecting an layer ther is inside a folder or not, your layer is just tossed outside the folder instead of it beeing at the folder you’re working on, not sure if it’s the same if you duplicate an layer that is inside a folder but I’m convinced it doesn’t appear inside the folder}
- F2 hotkey to rename the selected layer { It’s an industry standard that F2 renames selected objects, no matter the application. If it’s a note-taking application, F2 will change the name; even in Windows, if you press F2 on a file you’ll rename it, on blender, same thing, IDEs, same thing, you got it}
- Hotkey to quick export {The current export method is very good, but sometimes I consider editing the images within a .png file instead of .pixi because whenever I want to export after even the slightest change, I just need to press Ctrl + S instead of exporting then confirming the resolution and it’s folder opens, it’s really handy at most times and projects, but sometimes if you’re changing the texture of something at runtime, pressing Ctrl + E then clicking to export and close the folder 5 times in a minute can be booring, so please add a Ctrl + Alt + E to quick export using the last export settings instead of confirming and folder opening}
- Node descriptions {when placing a new node if you let your cursor stopped on it for a second it opens a text box teaching the user how the node works, it’s parameters and export type}
I guess that is it! I hope this editor becomes the best image editor it can be!
