organizing things with layers is extremely useful of course, but when doing things procedurally, you end up having to put your image data into a folders as a stand in for layer, which often ends up looking like an empty folder in the layer list. Having something like a folder that looks like a single layer (no expand/collapse etc.) would make it look more visually consistent with normal layers

Aren’t Nested Documents a solution? You can expose any input, connect your image/layer and it will appear as a non-expandable layer tree element
